Trip to Utah

A few weeks ago David had his first District Manager conference and it just so happened to be in Salt Lake City so the girls & I took the 14 hour drive with him & spent some time with Grandma & Grandpa while he worked. Salt Lake City is the home of Temple Square, a very important place for LDS members. We have been there many times but we have never had time to walk around & take tours of different buildings. So the girls & I took this time to look around. We started at the Conference Center (lots of things happen here, but the most important is every 6 months our Prophet speaks to us, via satellite for most of us). It holds 20,000 people & has no support beams in order not to obstruct anyone's view. The roof is 6 acres of fountains & vegetation. The girls thought it was great. Zhara really was hoping we would see the Prophet, President Monson. on the roof

Inside the Conference Center

Sunday night Grandma Sherry took us up to her mom's cabin. It was just us girls & we had such a great time. The girl's favorite part was the outhouse (due to no running water)

Grandma taught them it was okay to eat the grass....which was great until last Sunday back in AZ I turn to see Zhara eating leaf........not so great in AZ, where everything is poisonous

She also taught them how to make necklaces out of a certain plant

We had cereal for dinner

In the morning Grandma built a fire & then we headed to the fish hatchery down the road

Monday Grandma dropped us back off at the hotel & we spent the rest of the day exploring Temple Square. We learned about the pioneers, who were forced out of their homes & walked from IL to Utah

Grandma told the girls about her grandmother generations back, about how she joined the church in Switzerland & took a 6 week boat ride to the United States. The museum of Church History had these bunk beds from a ship that the girls thought were great

We had a great time. David stayed in this ridiculously nice hotel, where they actual turned down your beds & put chocolate on your pillows, but we missed being able to have him with us. It was fun to have the girls be excited about all the things we were seeing & learning about. Can't wait for the conference next year!
